By the late 1980s the Ferrari Testarossa was at the height of its powers, having become synonymous with the unbridled ambition and sense of excess that marked the era. The car took a starring role in Miami Vice—Enzo himself proving such a fan that he gifted a silver Testarossa to leading man Don Johnson—while giants of popular culture such as Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson, and M.C. Hammer ranked among famous owners.
As much a status symbol today as in period, the Testarossa radiates kerb appeal, not just for its era-defining styling but also its class-leading levels of performance. Built in the true Ferrari tradition, the Testarossa is powered by a mid-mounted 4,943-cc flat-12 engine capable of producing as much as 385 horsepower—enough for a 0-100 km/h sprint time of just 5.7 seconds and a claimed top speed of 290 km/h.
A home-market example, chassis 81603 was delivered to its first owner via Concessionaria Autoterminal S.p.A on 7 July 1989, later returning to the supplying dealership for subsequent servicing. Finished in Nero over a Nero leather interior, this tastefully specified Testarossa benefits from replacement of its timing belts in March 2020, prior to joining The Black On Black Collection in December 2020, while its odometer read 30,137 kilometres at the time of cataloguing. It is accompanied by its owner’s books, a fitted luggage set, and toolkit.
