Beschreibung
1965 ASTON MARTIN DB5 CONVERTIBLE
Completed and delivered in January 1965, to Aston Martin agents Brooklands of Bond Street, this now restored DB5 Convertible, would have received a great deal of admiration, when delivered to its first Hampshire based celebrity owner.
One of just 81 RHD examples of the DB5 Convertible, built between 1964-65. With a list price of some £4,500, almost twice the price of an average house in those days, the DB5 Convertible attracted a great deal of interest with many being owned by celebrities in period, a tradition continued too today.
Delivered when new, finished in Caribbean Blue with Grey hides and equipped with standard specifications, including a ZF 5-speed transmission, tinted glass and power operated windows.
Changing hands two years later, by 1973 the car had been purchased by a long-term Kent based enthusiast, who enjoyed and retained ownership for over 36 years, before releasing the car to its next collector owner in 2010.
Once purchased, the car was presented to the Aston Martin Works Heritage department in Newport Pagnell, for a thorough inspection and estimate of costs, for a total ‘body off’ restoration, to every aspect of the car. On submission of the detailed report and restoration estimate, totalling some £300,000, the owner subsequently commissioned the complete restoration to be carried out by the highly experienced engineers and craftsmen at Aston Martin Works. Once completed the restored car was handed back to the owner at the end of 2011.
In addition to the total restoration, options offered by Aston Martin Works and agreed to be incorporated within the restoration included the matching numbers engine rebuilt to 4.2 litre Vantage specifications, the suspension upgraded to Koni telescopic dampers and the steering fitted with removable electronic power assistance. As a finishing touch, a coveted Becker Mexico Retro in car entertainment system, was also installed. The restoration featuring in Issues 13 and 15 of Aston Martin’s Offical magazine in 2010 and 2011.
Acquired by a highly regarded UK based collector in 2012, the car now finished in Aston Martin Pacific Blue with Tan Connolly hide interior and matching Navy Blue woven fabric roof covering, is classically specified. Beautifully presented and a superb driving example of the rare and coveted DB5 Convertible, this car has been expertly maintained over the total of just 1,000 miles covered, since the completion of its restoration in 2011. And, when not in use, professionally stored in de-humidified conditions.
Accompanying the car is a substantial history file, containing the original Green Buff Log Book, original owners handbook, abundant MoT’s from 1972 onward, early parts invoices, Aston Martin estimates, invoices and a photographic presentation of the factory restoration, from project beginning to completion. An original equipment Tool Roll, Jack and Copper faced mallet, are also included.
Ready to grace the world’s finest concours lawns this forthcoming motoring season.
