Dating from the final year Vanguard production (a few utes apparently trickled out of AMI in 1964), this Standard Coupe Utility’s original books confirm it was sold new by C H Watson & Son of Young, NSW to a local by the name of C P Daw of “Woodlands” in Wombat. Mr Daw kept a meticulous log recording every oil change and the mileage, along with any servicing from the day he took delivery on May 20, 1963 all the way through to the last entry in 1990.

The car was purchased for the FM Collection at a clearing sale held at the Daw’s property “Woodlands” in September 1990, described in the listing as being in “A1 condition and showing 32,250 miles”, a figure we know from the log is genuine. Surviving in remarkable condition and showing just 32,662 miles on the clock, the Vanguard presents well throughout, with very good paint, a virtually unmarked interior and even the timber tray has survived in good order. The Standard is comparatively luxurious inside compared with contemporary Holden and Ford utes and the Smith’s gauges even lend it a sporting feel to match the twin carburettors under the bonnet. Although we haven’t had the ute running, it appears to be mechanically complete and should need only minor recommissioning to restore it back to fully operational condition.

A very rare offering, this is the first Standard Vanguard utility Shannons have had the pleasure of offering in decades and would suit a collector of British cars with a uniquely Australian twist. Currently unregistered, the Standard will be sold with No Reserve and comes with an Owner’s Manual, Instruction Book and Service Manual supplied.
