Fiat was busy with the 600’s successor in the early 60’s. The Turin brand first presented the normal 850 before pleasing us with the Coupé en Spider versions. The result was two true mini-Ferrari's that enthralled almost just as much. In 1968 the Coupé received its first upgrade being fitted with twin headlights, the inner ones a tad smaller than the outer ones. The rear was also modernised with a so-called ‘coda tronca’ a sharp angle rear with twin taillights as opposed to the early round-ended single taillight version. With a more powerful 903 cc 4-cylinder developing 52 hp Fiat decided it was right to now designate the Coupé as a Sports Coupé. The Fiat 850 Sport Coupé has typical Italian lines, reminiscent of a Ferrari. Through squinted eyes, you can just about imagine seeing a 3.65 metre Ferrari 250 GTE. Ok with just a bit of imagination possibly. Whatever your feelings are this is a very amusing, darting little coupé with its engine seated between the rear axle and only little weight upfront, guaranteed to thrill.

The Sport Coupé we have here is so authentic you will be hard put to find anything similar. The car was handed over to its first owner on the 25th of August 1970 in Italy. For 49 years the 850 enjoyed the Italian climate before arriving in Germany in 2019 under the excellent loving care of its new owner. The panelwork is as straight as an arrow with the alignment of doors, boot, bonnet and panel gaps exactly as you would wish them to be. From the roof to the sill the deep red paintwork is undamaged. We can easily state this is exceptional for this type of vehicle. All of the brightwork, rubbers and windows are in a pristine state.

Seated inside behind two large counters the party continues. Black upholstery, wooden detailing and a finish impress as being far more exclusive. Just smaller and cosier.

Our Fiat 850 Sport Coupé has the ASI emblem and all the official paperwork neatly filed away. The file also contains many recent invoices, which reassures us you can immediately drive this Italian beauty away without any trouble.
