Introduced in 1979, the Lancia Delta was a compact saloon designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. It met with immediate success and was elected European Car of the Year by the press in 1980. The standard version was followed by the GT, then the HF Turbo, the S4 (intended for homologation as a Group B rally car), the HF 4WD (the first Lancia Integrale to win the World Rally Championship in 1987), the HF Integrale (which in turn claimed the world title in 1988) and finally, in 1989, the HF Integrale 16v. In 1991, the Italian manufacturer presented the first evolution of its Delta HF Integrale, which would win an eleventh World Rally Championship title the following year. The ultimate development of the Lancia Delta Integrale, the Evoluzione 2, appeared in 1993; the power produced by its 4-cylinder in-line Lampredi engine increased to 215 bhp, with maximum torque of 236 lb. ft delivered at just 2500 rpm.
First registered in Italy on 20 January 1995, this model was one of the very last cars to roll off the production lines. Looking magnificent in its original Bianco Freddo livery (code 210), this Delta Evo 2 is in perfect cosmetic and mechanical condition. The history of these cars is sometimes dubious and often complicated to establish; their mechanical components are frequently put to the test. In this case, the car still has both sets of keys, as well as its manuals and booklets in Italian. Its current owner, a discerning enthusiast and distinguished rally driver, took just as much care of his Lancia Delta as he did of the cars he prepared for competition. Following an overhaul of the turbo in 2014, the side bolsters of the superb alcantara seats were restored in 2016 and a major mechanical service was carried out at the beginning of 2018. The complete timing kit, alternator belt and all the filters and fluids were replaced, and the supporting invoices are to hand. In August 2017, moreover, the owner requested Allex in Epinal to inspect the car; they valued it at 60,000 €. The car runs straight, with its handling matching our expectations; it revs keenly and accelerates strongly, while its brakes perform well.
