Beschreibung

For 2011, Ferrari launched its GTE class challenger, the 458 Italia GTE, built specifically to compete in ACO and FIA sanctioned endurance racing series.
Following in the footsteps of the hugely successful F430 GT/C was no easy task. But if any company could create a worthy successor, it was Michelotto Automobili. The Padua-based company has a storied history with Ferrari, having been responsible for the creation of legends such as the 308 GTB Group IV, the GTO Evoluzione, the F40 LM and the F333 SP. Although often working under the radar, Michelotto is a cornerstone of Ferrari's racing success. Their collaboration with Ferrari's Corse Clienti department has seen them become the exclusive builders of the brand's V8-powered GT race cars in recent years - the most successful of which has been the 458 Italia GTE.
The car's striking Pininfarina-designed lines sit atop an aluminium monocoque chassis that contributes to a featherweight total weight of just 1,245kg. Under the bonnet, the naturally aspirated 4.5-litre V8 - regulated by new restrictor rules - produced around 470 bhp and was mated to a Hewland 6-speed sequential gearbox. Designed with racing purity in mind, the car ditched the 'flex splitter' used on the road-going version in favor of a traditional front intake, with airflow exiting through louvres in the bonnet for improved aerodynamic efficiency. The result was a purpose-built endurance weapon.
The 458 GTE quickly established itself as one of Ferrari's most successful GT models. Developed by Michelotto Automobili with full factory support, the car was considered the ultimate Ferrari GT racer of its time. Only 52 units were produced in Padua: 11 served as factory "works" entries for AF Corse, while 41 went to privateer customer teams.
The hard figures speak for themselves. In seven years of competition, the 458 Italia GTE scored an astonishing 104 victories from 617 races. There was hardly a major endurance race or series that it didn't win: the World Endurance Championship (WEC), the European Le Mans Series (ELMS), the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, the International GT Open, the American Le Mans Series (ALMS), the Tudor United Sports Car Championship and the Asian Le Mans Series. It has won legendary events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans - often multiple times.
Its final appearance came at the 2017 European Le Mans Series round at Monza, where it took a dramatic and fitting final victory - outperforming even newer-generation machines.
The 458 GTE is also the last naturally aspirated GT race car in Ferrari's history, closing a glorious chapter before the turbocharged 488 GTE takes over in 2016.

Specific History of this car:
Chassis number 2880, one of eleven 458 Italia GTEs built by Michelotto specifically for the de facto Ferrari works GT team AF Corse, was delivered to the team's headquarters in Piacenza in March 2014. It was one of two cars earmarked to compete in the World Endurance Championship's premier GTE Pro class.
