The 1973 Ford Transit 90 Custom was a standout in the first generation of Ford's legendary Transit lineup, blending practicality with a touch of refinement. Built for versatility, the 90 referred to its short wheelbase and 90-inch chassis, making it highly maneuverable, ideal for urban deliveries and tradesmen. The Custom trim added comfort features rare in commercial vans of the era, like upgraded interior trim and optional extras. Powered by a range of petrol and diesel engines, it was known for reliability and ease of maintenance. With its tough build, iconic boxy styling and everyday utility, the 90 Custom became a trusted companion for countless businesses.
This 1973 Ford Transit benefitted from an earlier restoration and presents well in dark blue coachwork and features three front seats. In 2002, this iconic Mk. I example was purchased by the musician and presenter Jools Holland of Squeeze fame. He says it was a reminder of touring with his band in the 1970s which was his first trip abroad. "There were four of us all squeezed in the back," he recalled, "but there were no windows, just a tiny round hole on the side of the van and we'd take it in turns to look out and observe Europe." Recent sales prices of similar vehicles have confirmed the model's popularity. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document, this important piece of automotive history is ready for a new owner. Consigned by Dominic Lake
