1960 ASTON MARTIN DB4 - SERIES 1

Finished in original build colours of Snow Shadow Grey with Burgundy hide interior and fitted with Chromed wire wheels.

The Series 1 DB4 we are delighted to offer, an early example identifiable by the high profiled and front opening ‘crocodile’ bonnet and absence of door window frames, for many years formed part of a UK based classic car collection and was frequently shown at concours events including at Goodwood, during the 2000’s. Purchased by ourselves and re-sold in 2017, this exceptional car was concurrently bare metal repainted in its original colour of Snow Shadow Grey and the interior entirely retrimmed, in appropriate Burgundy Connolly hides and re-carpeted, as originally specified.

Completed in production and delivered to its first UK based owner in February 1960, the DB4 was the first Aston Martin motor car to carry the renowned ‘Superleggera’ title, a reference to the light-weight construction principles pioneered by Italian coachbuilders, Touring of Milan. Designed by Touring, the aluminium body panels, fitted over a steel tubular frame and attached to a steel platform chassis, formed the basis of a ‘golden’ generation of Aston Martin models, up to and including the DB6 Mk2 of 1970.

With a stated weight of just 1,300 kilos, the Series 1 DB4, fitted with the then new ‘Marek’ designed, all alloy 3.7 litre in-line 6 cylinder engine, was a star of the 1958 Paris Motor Show, when first shown and with agile handling, 4-wheel disc brakes, 240bhp and on tap, drew universal acclaim for its Italian styling and new levels of performance, in period.

A matching number and originally specified example, this cherished DB4 has been serviced and maintained by Aston Martin Works and ourselves over the last 10 years, prior to which maintenance had been carried out by the owner’s in-house mechanic. A delight to drive, the car is supplied with a comprehensive service history file, containing original build details, parts and maintenance records, concours reports and quantity of MoT certificates.

Supplied fully serviced and prepared to our usual standards, this very pretty and highly original DB4 Series 1, is available now for inspection at our Hertfordshire showrooms.
