Beschreibung
Introduced at the Paris Motor Show in October 1962, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III was the brand’s best-selling model. It improved upon its predecessor, the Silver Cloud II, with lighter-weight construction, a higher-compression ratio, and larger twin SU carburetors. This resulted in a 7% increase in horsepower, meaning the Silver Cloud III was capable of a respectable 120 mph top speed.
According to Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club records on file, this Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Saloon, chassis LSJR 239, was delivered new 59 years ago on September 2, 1965, to The Atlas Leasing Corporation of Beverly Hills, California, through Charles H. Hornburg Jr. Motorcars of New York, for an unknown client. The US-market Saloon was specified in Shell Grey over a blue leather interior. Optional equipment included power windows, automatic antenna, Firestone whitewall tires, and the deletion of the rear badge, normally affixed to the car’s bootlid.
Although the Silver Cloud’s subsequent provenance is not known, the car was acquired by Paul Toberty circa 2014. Mr. Toberty had the interior re-trimmed in era-appropriate red leather and used the car on special occasion drives around Southern California. Having been a part of The Paul Toberty Collection for over a decade, this Silver Cloud III Saloon is a great entry point for collectors looking to experience what many consider to be a high-water mark for the brand.
