Engine No. 19357
Former Italian Royal Airforce mechanic Ferruccio Lamborghini opened a car and motorcycle repair shop near Modena after World War II. In 1948, he moved into tractor manufacturing, initially using military surplus parts before progressing to his own designs with water-cooled MWM engines by 1952. His company developed proprietary air-cooled engines by 1959, and Lamborghini Trattori SpA grew into one of Italy's major agricultural equipment manufacturers through the 1950s. This success in the tractor industry, along with an infamous run-in with Enzo Ferrari, funded Lamborghini's 1963 entry into luxury automobile manufacturing, marking the beginning of The House of the Raging Bull as we know it today.
The consignor notes this 1966 Lamborghini tractor finished its Italian restoration in 2023, arriving in the U.S. the next year. It is characterized by its trademark vibrant blue and orange color scheme with "1R" model designation decals. It is powered by a 1,462-cc air-cooled two-cylinder diesel engine with an ANSA muffler equipped with Bosch fuel injection producing 26 horsepower, paired with a three-speed dual-range manual transmission and portal axle drivetrain. It incorporates a comprehensive array of functional equipment, including headlights, a tail light, a chassis-mounted toolbox, and a rear power take-off shaft. The wheels, finished in orange with blue hubs, are fitted with white-letter 4.00-15 BKT front tires and 9.5-24 Cultor rear tires.
This attractive example of Lamborghini's agricultural heritage merits consideration both for dedicated vintage farm equipment collections and Lamborghini collectors seeking an intriguing piece of the marque's compelling origin story.
