This factory KTM 690 Rally formerly belonged to Cyril Despres, who used it to win the last 'real' Dakar Rally in 2007 (the 2007 running was the last classic Paris-Dakar before the event was moved to South America; it is now held in Saudi Arabia.) Cyril Despres won the Paris-Dakar Rally on five occasions (2005, 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2013), on each occasion riding a factory KTM.

As the last winner of the Dakar Rally as it was originally conceived, this historic motorcycle represents the closure of an important chapter in the event's history, making it of especial interest to enthusiasts and collectors alike. Purchased at auction in 2008 by the vendor's late uncle through the 'Wings for Life Foundation', the machine is offered with an 'as worn' helmet from Cyril Despres; a photograph of the handover with Cyril Despres; and a copy of the German registration document, the latter incorrectly recording the machine as a Replica (production model).
