Beschreibung
Peter Monteverdi designed a frame made-up of square tubes in 1975. This was supposed to be the base for the new Safari. Fact is, Monteverdi’s chassis design was in the end not used in the series production. Instead, Monteverdi relied on the standard chassis of the International Scout II. Its coach work on the other hand was, according to Monteverdi’s own records, to his own design! It was then built by Fissore. The Safari was Monteverdi‘s most successful model. Peter Monteverdi repeatedly spoke of around 3,000 units; some sources put the production figure at ‚several hundred’ – the truth is probably, as so often, somewhere in between. The Safari offered here is a Swiss delivery and was first registered on the 5th of January 1978. Around 15 years ago the noble SUV was taken over by an enthusiast who had a new head lining and a new differential installed. At the end of 2014 the Monteverdi was sold to a further owner who later passed it on to the vendor through a Monteverdi dealer in 2022. The new owner commissioned, in 2023, for around 5’900 francs, a mechanical check-over including a revision of the carburettor. Since then, the car has been driven sparingly and therefore presents itself in very good and very original condition. Currently the Monteverdi shows a mere 120’000 kilometres and, in addition to the Wolfrace summer rims installed, a set off steel winter wheels, not used in the last years, will be handed over with the car. The most recent veteran MOT was completed in August 2022 allowing the noble Monteverdi to be registered in most Cantons immediately.
