Mercedes-Benz has been producing an SL (Sport Leicht) model or range of models since 1954 when the landmark 300 SL was unveiled. The similarly styled, but mechanically unrelated, 190 followed in 1955, completing the first generation of cars. Their successor was the W113 series SL which proved to be more comfortable than the former and faster than the latter. The 250 SL is the rarest of all the SL's as they were only made for one year, of these, very few were fitted with a manual gearbox. The 250 SL also had a far superior seven main bearing engine as opposed to four in the 230 SL and also benefited from rear disc brakes and stiffer suspension.

This lovely example of this iconic marque has been the subject of a restoration, which has included a full respray in its evocative colour of cream with new leather interior in Mulberry which looks fabulous, as does the new carpets with its Mulberry edging and lovely woodwork. It is classed as a California Special but was sold worldwide with the bulk going to the US. Our client has correspondence from the ex-US owner stating that this was his car for 32 years but was a German vehicle originally hence no market lights! The was imported into the UK in April 2023, when the car was stripped completely and the bodyshell was soda blasted rather than sand blasted to preserve the metal underneath the paint at the time. All perishable rubbers and auxiliary items were supplied by the SL Shop. Its 2400cc engine is mated to a manual gearbox and it also benefits from a rear seat which not all Pagodas have. Its factory hardtop which is also included has bee resprayed in Cream also, finishing this elegant Mercedes-Benz off nicely. These Pagodas whip up emotions whenever being driven or even being seen on the road, for their timeless elegant design to the wonderful engine note, this is no exception. Consigned by James Good.
