The Bentley Continental Convertible shared most parts and styling with the Rolls-Royce Corniche. The Corniche was a two-door HJ Mulliner Park Ward variant of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and Bentley T-Series sedans, which were notable for being the first monocoque cars built at the Crewe plant. The Continental represented the ultimate in unique coach-built motoring, designed to appeal to top clientele with a refusal to accept anything less than the very best. For 1986 the Bentley Continental received the same upgrades that led Rolls-Royce to change the designation of their car to Corniche II. Upgrades include rack and pinion steering, alloy wheels and bi-level air-conditioning. The car is powered by the infamous Rolls-Royce and Bentley renowned 6.75 Liter V8 with Bosch fuel injection driven through a four-speed automatic transmission. Other updates for 1986 included revised and color-coded bumpers, rear view mirrors, a new dash and improvements to the seats. The Continental is much rarer than the Corniche and far more desirable to enthusiasts and collectors of Bentley motorcars. This is possibly due to the understated front-end styling and Bentleys historic sporting pedigree. Less than 200 Continental Convertibles were produced between 1985 and 1989.
