Benelli began in 1911 as a motorcycle repair facility, then progressed to the manufacture of parts. It built its first complete motorcycle in 1921 and started winning on the track several years later. The factory was destroyed during WWII, but the firm recovered well and was soon winning races again. When De Tomaso bought the company in 1971, they decided Benelli needed a showpiece. This would take the form of a luxury sporting motorcycle in the spirit of the De Tomaso Pantera sports car, featuring angular styling and prodigious power. Within a year, Benelli’s engineers came up with the Sei (Italian for “six”), which was fitted with a transverse six-cylinder engine, the first to be designed for a production motorcycle.

This handsome example has remained in current ownership for the last 34 years in the hands of its UK-based enthusiast. At cataloguing, the motorcycle displayed approximately 900 miles, and it is reported by the consignor to remain in largely original condition, besides a repaint in red from its original silver.

One of the best sounding motorcycles ever built, its six chrome exhaust pipes are on proud display. Accompanied by a copy of the owner’s handbook and documentation, this is an exciting opportunity to acquire an attractive example of one of the rarest and most unique sporting motorcycles from the 1970s.
