Beschreibung

After the introduction of the Vanquish Zagato Coupe at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in 2016, Aston Martin introduced three additional variants: a Volante, a Speedster, and a Shooting Brake. These stunning machines were a direct result of and a fitting homage to the successful, historic relationship between Aston Martin and the Italian design house Carrozzeria Zagato, which dates to the early 1960s. The Vanquish Zagato was the first model for which the two companies would produce a family of four complementary, yet highly differentiated, body styles. The excitement surrounding the four models even led several eager buyers to place orders for one of each.

All four versions were built on the V-12 Vanquish S platform, which featured at its heart a 580 hp naturally aspirated V-12 engine mated to the smooth-shifting, eight-speed, Touchtronic III transmission. Adaptive suspension damping was fine-tuned for each body style, resulting in an optimal, custom-tailored driving experience. Limited production of the Vanquish Zagato was set at 99 Coupes, 99 Volantes, 28 Speedsters, and 99 Shooting Brakes, the latter of which was by far the most cutting-edge design.

Originating in the 1890s, the Shooting Brake body style began as a simple but heavy frame designed for breaking in, or training, young horses to pull horse-drawn carriages. It became popular with English aristocrats because its rear-loading hatch was well suited to shooting parties. The body style emerged again on English motorcars during the 1920s and 1930s and again in the 1960s. Coachbuilder Radford even manufactured several Shooting Brake versions of the Aston Martin DB6.

For the Vanquish Zagato, the handsome and utterly unique coachwork was made completely of carbon fiber using large panels and very few split lines, creating a flowing, seamless design, almost as if it was hewn from one single piece. This example was ordered new by the consignor in the stunning and exclusive Q by Aston Martin color of Scintilla Silver over an Obsidian Black interior. The Aston Martin was displayed at the 2019 Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, where its engine cover was signed by Andrea Zagato and it received the Zagato Centennial Award. It was also featured in a hunting-themed event for legendary apparel manufacturer Orvis in 2021 and shown at The Bridge in 2022, held at the site of the former Bridgehampton racetrack.

Sparingly driven by its one and only enthusiast owner, this example displayed just 1,935 miles at the time of cataloguing and remains a stellar, distinctive representation of a modern-day, coachbuilt supercar. Built specifically to maintain Aston Martin’s reputation for building the rarest of the rare, this Vanquish Zagato presents a unique opportunity for collectors of Aston Martin and those who appreciate Zagato’s legacy of avant-garde Italian design.
