Beschreibung

Unveiled at the January 2002 North American International Auto Show, a new Ford GT supercar concept paid homage to the legendary GT40 race car. The project was spearheaded by Camilo Pardo, who worked under Ford’s Chief Creative Officer J Mays, and the program benefited from the input of Carroll Shelby, whose pivotal role in the original GT40 program cannot be overstated. Built in limited numbers for the 2005 and 2006 model years, demand far outstripped supply, with early cars frequently selling for substantial premiums above MSRP.

Underpinned by an aluminum space-frame chassis, the new GT was clad in composite and aluminum body panels that echoed the dramatic look of its 1960s inspiration, including doors that cut into its roofline. Providing a driver-focused experience, the minimalist cabin showcased a blend of retro-inspired design cues and modern functionality. The GT embodied pure, unadulterated performance and eschewed complex driver aids. The mid-mounted, hand-built, 5.4-liter, supercharged DOHC V-8 engine featured an aluminum block, dry sump lubrication, and a forged-steel crankshaft with a cross-plane design and developed 550 hp at 6,500 rpm. Coupled with relatively lightweight construction, the GT was capable of 0–60 mph in around 3.5 seconds, 0–100 mph in 7.4 seconds, and a 205 mph top speed.

This outstanding example is finished in red with white racing stripes, complemented by an ebony leather interior. Delivered new to McRee Ford of Dickinson, Texas, this GT’s window sticker notes that it was desirably equipped with all four factory options, including a McIntosh sound system, painted racing stripes, BBS lightweight, forged-aluminum wheels, and silver-painted brake calipers.

Displaying just over 220 miles on its odometer at the time of cataloguing, this Ford GT has in recent years resided within the current owner’s private collection and remains in stunning cosmetic condition. Importantly, this example retains several rarely seen delivery items, including its original transportation instruction hang tags, car cover, battery tender, spare keys, and predelivery inspection sheet. The car is also complete with books and a copy of the window sticker.

A contemporary interpretation of the GT40 that achieved great success at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 2005–2006 Ford GTs represent a time when engineering prowess and driver engagement were paramount. Sought-after today for its combination of timeless design, performance, and rarity, this striking 2006 Ford GT merits close scrutiny. With ultralow-mileage, all four factory options, its vibrant color scheme, and its host of original accessories and paperwork, this GT is a highly collectible example of Ford’s modern masterpiece.
