To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' Monterey event, 15 - 17 August 2024.

  • Wonderfully preserved, manual six-speed example with only 2,910 miles at cataloguing time
  • Lovely color combination of gunmetal gray over beige leather
  • Recent major service with fresh timing belts, fuel pump, water pump, tires, and valve cover gaskets
  • One of the all-time great designs of the Nineties finally getting its due

With its sleek silhouette and flowing lines penned by Pininfarina, the Ferrari 456 GT’s timeless design belies its age, having begun production more than 30 years ago. A case study in iconic Pininfarina expertise, values for this four-seat grand tourer have been steadily rising in recent years, indicating that the 456 GT, introduced for the 1992 model year, might finally be getting the recognition it deserves as one of the all-time great designs of the Nineties.

Imagined by designers Pietro Camardella and Lorenzo Ramaciotti, Pininfarina initially executed the aluminum bodywork itself until Ferrari assumed responsibility for production in 1996. Its shapes and details pay homage to the legendary Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona, most evident at the front and rear. To preserve the cohesion of its elegant form, a novel aerodynamic element under the car, hidden in the rear valance, automatically changes its angle relative to road speed and thus regulates downforce for improved stability without the need for an obtrusive rear spoiler.

The first front-engine, luxury “2+2” coupe in the lineup since the 1985 412, Ferrari ensured its performance would not disappoint by installing an all-new 442-horsepower V-12 engine paired with the company’s iconic, gated, six-speed, manual transaxle for ideal weight distribution. An automatic transmission was also offered, while the suspension featured telescoping gas-filled shocks with a self-leveling rear axle. Inside, the beautifully crafted cabin was capacious and comfortable for four occupants.

This 456 GT is remarkable for having been driven only 2,910 miles since new as of cataloguing time. Its lovely combination of Canna di Fucile—gunmetal gray—over beige leather is perfectly matched to the elegant design.

First registered in Florida and later in New York, it remains in excellent condition throughout with minimal use over the past 10 years and benefits from a major service in March 2024, which included replacing the timing belts, fuel pump, brake hoses, tires, water pump and thermostat, spark plugs and ignition wires, drive belts, battery, hood struts, a sway bar link, and valve cover gaskets along with other worn seals. Now offered with factory books, tool kit, and an invoice for the recent work, it is ready to be enjoyed and lavished with the overdue appreciation this stunning 12-cylinder GT has long merited.
