Officially presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1987, developed by BMW Technik GmbH, it has as its own identity a new technology of vertically sliding electric doors, an innovative system at the time, with a very appealing and radical silhouette and lines, marking this first new segment of BMW with the "Z" sign. It is equipped with a 6 Cylinder engine 2.5L M20 of 170CV , coupled with a manual gearbox 5V ( Getrag ).
