Beschreibung

A pen and ink illustration for a futuristic design for off-road parking and a pedestrian footbridge across Regent Street, featured in The Illustrated London News in 1926. Glazed and framed with a conservation-grade mount and a plain, black oak section frame.

Charles William Grineau (1883–1957), who signed his work as Bryan de Grineau, was an exceptionally talented draftsman, but as an artist he was better known for his paintings of automobiles and steam locomotives. In an age before press photography, artists like de Grineau and his contemporary Terence Cuneo, lent their skills to show the reading public what was happening in the world in pictorial form. This piece was commissioned by The Illustrated London News in 1926 to most likely illustrate a proposal to make Regent Street a car and pedestrian friendly environment, but which never came to fruition.

Drawing size: 17 x 13.5 in. (43 x 34 cm). Overall size: 27 x 22 in. (69 x 56 cm).
