A magnificent and entirely unique sculptural model of the single-seat Hawker Hurricane fighter plane, (Mark 1A) of 1937 vintage, by John Elwell (English, b. 1949). The hand-crafted aluminum panels are formed over a space frame, incorporating cockpit with pilot and canopy detail, rudders, squadron markings "SOK," and solid, completely hand-carved aluminum propeller and landing gear. As with all John Elwell pieces, the Hurricane is a unique, one-off piece, and represents almost 1,000 hours of highly skilled workmanship. The model mounted on a cantilevered hardwood display base, fully adjustable with allen key, bearing a silver engraved plaque signed John Elwell and numbered 1/1, dated 2010. An engraving under the right wing dedicates the piece "In memory of W/Cdr Paul Bingham Elwell D.F.C M.R.E 1910 – 1962."
