The authorship of this exceptional vehicle, which has known extraordinary commercial success, belongs to the make's first Dutch importer Mr. Ben Pon, based in Amersfoort. His idea was to build a light practical vehicle based on the "Beetle", launched in 1945 and named "Type 1". Its tremendous simple and bare design is characterised by large smooth surfaces and a V-shaped pattern, which constitute the banner outlining the beltline. The headlights, covered with glass spheres, give the Combi a familiar resemblance with the Beetle and the Porsche 356.
This particular car is the most desirable version of the Volkswagen Bus, the Type 1 "Samba Bus" version, modified and fitted with 23 glazed windows and a large sunroof. It was restored by an enthusiast in love with the first-generation models in Marilia, Brazil. The engine, gearbox, suspensions and brakes have been redone. The bodywork was already in sound condition and retains all its original sheet-metal éléments. Its openings are perfectly aligned and all accessories have been replaced with new ones. It comes with a recent inspection report, invoices and a valid technical check. As a seamless combination of exterior colours and elegant interior, this Combi perfectly exemplifies the "Vanning", this new craze for life in the open air.
