A letter from the VW museum informs us that this car was delivered on February 12, 1952, to the VW Diffusion dealership in Neuilly in this elegant 'Chestnut brown' colour. The Neuilly dealership had just opened its doors at the end of 1951, so this Beetle was one of the first civilian Volkswagens on the French market! VW does not issue a certificate with the precise numbers however the chassis, engine, gearbox, and body numbers correspond to the production numbers of February 1952. Rare are the examples that still have their original engine today: the 25bhp 'cast feet' engine, often replaced by a larger displacement engine, the same for the 'split-case' trumpet gearbox often replaced by a synchronized gearbox. This Beetle is still adorned today with its specific equipment, the 16-inch rims, the Sekurit windows including those of the front having a cutout for the ventilation of the interior, the ventilation hatches are a special feature for the deluxe model of the '51 and '52 vintages. This Beetle on offer has a clear history, including one ownership for 34 years.
Delivered new in France, this '52 Beetle is particularly attractive with its two-part rear window, which has earned it the nickname "Bretzelfenster" or "split-window".
