The Volkswagen Beetle is truly a motoring icon. Launched in 1938 as the ‘People’s Car’ it was to bring mobility to those of fairly modest means. During its forty year production life the basic concept remained unaltered (although it was still manufactured in Mexico and Brazil into the 1990s) and it underwent over 70,000 identifiable modifications. It was this constant development and attention to detail which made the car a practicable proposition into its dotage.
After a massive run of 21,550,000 Beetles, production finally came to an end on the original Beetle which has been built in Mexico since 1967. As a fond farewell, an Ultimate Edition was made which are the last 3,000 cars to roll of the Mexican production line.
