The PV544 was the direct successor of the PV444. With this she had a big task, because her predecessor was quite significant for the brand. It was the first 'uni-body' car, which stood for a self-supporting chassis. It was also the first Volvo in 20 years to come up with a four cylinder, something they had to get used to in Sweden.

In 1958 came the PV544, better known to us as the katterug. Why did it become a 5? Because, with a little pushing and pulling, they could now carry 5 people instead of 4! She was also recognizable by her larger front and rear windows.

Subcutaneously the P544 changed continuously. The most noteworthy change was in '61, where the famous B18 was hoisted into the Swedish bodywork, together with the 12 Volt system.
