Volvo 142 Grand Luxe (1972)

Although it is over 50 years old, this 1972 Volvo 142 Grand Luxe looks like it just rolled out of the factory. A particularly beautiful appearance, we would even call the car elegant. A copy that dates from the era when large shock-absorbing bumpers did not yet define the face of Volvos, but where the chrome-plated moldings subtly show that this is a car of quality and class. The light brown paint gives the car extra cachet.

But if you look further, you will see that there is more to this Volvo 142. The extra spotlights on the front bumper, the 'period' alloy wheels, the dashboard in which the tape speedometer instrument cluster has been replaced by a panel with circular gauges, providing all the engine condition information you need on a long tour or classic rally .

Some changes were also made under the hood. On the completely overhauled engine, the Bosch D-Jetronic petrol injection was replaced by a Weber carburetor, which provides some extra power in the rev ranges that you need it and provides a somewhat sportier sound. All this makes this Volvo 142 ideally suited for the enthusiast who wants to take his first steps on the classic rally test.

Is classic rally sport not for you? Don't worry, because this Volvo is excellent for regular commuting, if necessary, or a long holiday through Europe. Thanks to the overdrive on the four-speed manual transmission, the technology remains calm even at higher cruising speeds on the highway. While on beautiful winding mountain roads you can make optimal use of the rich torque that the two-liter B20 engine already has at low speeds.

Along the way you will certainly appreciate the luxury of the black leather seats. Volvo was one of the very first brands to pay attention to the anatomy of the occupants, and have adapted the shape of the seats accordingly. For good seating comfort you are always at the right place at Volvo.

Have we not even mentioned perhaps the greatest appeal of this Volvo: its exceptionally beautiful condition. The car has been in the Netherlands for 25 years, at the time it was imported from Spain. And the sun always shines there. The robust sheet metal of the car has never been in contact with brine in the first 25 years of its existence. But also in the Netherlands, the two previous owners treated the car with love and care. A car in a fantastic condition, which can be enjoyed for many years to come.
