Perhaps the most recognisable design ever to leave Japan, Toyota’s 40-Series Land Cruiser is also arguably the most rugged and durable. Introduced in 1960, the model went on to conquer some of the most challenging terrain on earth, cementing the Japanese firm’s reputation for quality and reliability. Although retired in most markets in 1984, the FJ40 is still an extraordinarily capable and highly-prized off-roader.
Part of The Degenève Collection, a line-up belonging to one of Europe’s very first Toyota dealers, the FJ40 offered is a beautifully presented example of this iconic design. Registered in May 1978, it is finished in its original original Freeborn Red and powered by the torquey long-stroke 4,230 cc straight-six “2F” engine. Sitting on evocative BF Goodrich all-terrain tyres, the Toyota presents beautifully. This FJ40 comes with its original manuals and is guaranteed to turn heads—whether at shows, or on remote mountain tracks. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/pa23.
