Sunbeam-Talbot was a manufacturer with a short lifespan, created after Rootes’s acquisition of both Sunbeam and Talbot in the 1930s. The Sunbeam-Talbot 3-Litre would, in fact, be one of the last cars to bear the illustrious Sunbeam-Talbot name, however the new model certainly lived up to the reputation of the company for well-engineered and high-quality motor cars. Launched at the 1937 Olympia Motor Show, the new model impressed, thanks to its 3,181 cc engine with alloy cylinder heads, providing excellent performance even from low speeds, and its four-speed synchromesh gearbox.

Only 12 tourer-bodied examples were ever completed, and only four are known to survive today. Chassis 8577 was bodied as a tourer by well-renowned coachbuilders Whittingham & Mitchel of Putney and delivered new to Rootes Export Division on 29 July 1938, indicating that it is possible that the car was delivered new to Portugal. Today this car is a rare survivor of immediate pre-war British car production and is eminently usable today, thanks to the quality of the original design.

A Sunbeam-Talbot teve uma vida curta enquanto construtor, tendo sido criada após a aquisição tanto da Sunbeam como da Talbot pela Rootes, no anos 30. O Sunbeam-Talbot 3-Litre seria mesmo um dos últimos automóveis a ostentar o ilustre nome Sunbeam-Talbot; todavia, o novo modelo esteve à altura da reputação do construtor na produção de veículos de qualidade e elevado rigor técnico. Lançado em 1937, no Olympia Motor Show, o novo modelo impressionou graças ao seu motor de 3181 cc, com cabeça em liga de alumínio, que proporcionava excelente desempenho, acoplado a uma caixa de quatro velocidades sincronizadas.

Apenas 12 Sunbeam-Talbot 3-Litre Tourer foram construídos e conhecem-se somente quatro sobreviventes. A carroçaria do chassis 8577 foi feita pela reputada firma Whittingham & Mitchel, de Putney. Após a sua produção, foi entregue à divisão de exportação da Rootes a 29 de julho de 1938, apontando para a possibilidade de ter sido entregue novo em Portugal. Este automóvel é um raro sobrevivente da indústria automóvel britânica, no período imediatamente anterior à II Guerra Mundial, sendo perfeitamente utilizável atualmente, graças à qualidade técnica que presidiu à sua conceção.
