The Subaru SVX, produced from 1991 to 1996, was a bold and unique entry into the grand touring coupe segment. Designed by legendary Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, the SVX stood out with its futuristic, aircraft-inspired 'window-within-a-window' glass design. Under the bonnet, it featured a 3.3 litre flat-six engine, the largest Subaru has ever made, producing around 230bhp, paired with an automatic transmission. Unlike most Subarus of the era, it came standard with all-wheel drive, emphasising performance and stability in all conditions. While its styling was polarising, the SVX offered a smooth, refined ride, targeting a more upscale market than Subaru typically pursued. Despite its innovative design and strong performance, the SVX struggled in sales due to its high price point and the early '90s economic downturn. Today, it's considered a cult classic, appreciated by enthusiasts for its uniqueness, advanced features, and the ambition Subaru showed in creating it.
This example is a rare JDM version with rear wheel steering and is well presented in an attractive two-tone burgundy and black exterior colour with a black leather interior. The interior has aged very well for a 33-year-old car and is in good order overall. The SVX was a very advanced car for its time, with climate control, air conditioning, cruise control, speed sensitive power steering, electric and heated seats and many more features. This example is reported to drive very well, but the cruise control and rev counter do not currently work. The car is supplied to auction with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate valid until July 2025 along with some invoices showing works over the years. Consigned by Fraser Smith
