Background

The Subaru Impreza is a petrolhead’s dream, manufactured by the Japanese automaker Subaru since 1992. Mainstream versions have been equipped with 'boxer' flat-four engines ranging from 1.5 to 2.5-litres, while the performance-oriented Impreza WRX and WRX STi models were enhanced with turbochargers. Since the third generation series, some markets have adopted the abbreviated Subaru WRX name for these high performance variants.

From the early 1990s through to 2008, Subaru enjoyed enormous success on the World Rally stage and the Impreza was the star. All-wheel drive, strong acceleration, excellent traction and reliable brakes made the cars seriously capable performers. The WRX, or 'World Rally eXperimental' production car, was based on the rally-winning Impreza and retained many driver-focused features and systems. The WRX STi was the top of the line version and in the right hands, it was a hard to beat car.

The Car

This particular car is a 2005 'Blobeye' Subaru Impreza GX, styled to resemble a WRX-spec model. The vendor intended to use the car for track days and hill climbs, but other commitments took priority.

It is finished in blue with the iconic Subaru WRX livery and gold alloy wheels. The car is fitted with the 2-litre EJ20 engine, producing 123bhp via a 5-speed manual transmission. As seen in the photos, the engine appears to be in a very well kept condition, with the vendor stating that it runs and drives perfectly, as it should.

The interior has been upgraded with Subaru 'bucket' sports seats to provide more support during spirited driving. Subaru's driver positioning and cockpit layout are known for being both practical and comfortable, designed with usability in mind and this example is no exception. The vendor confirms that everything functions as it should.

This car could easily be turned into a track-going monster with a few light modifications, or serve as the perfect daily driver for any enthusiast.

The car is currently without an MOT, as it has only been used off-road by the vendor.
