About this Collectable
Convertibles don't get much crazier than a Smart Crossblade. It's absurd, and that's why it's such a fun car. This is a design that you normally only see as a concept car. However, Smart was bold enough to take the Crossblade into production. In a limited edition of course: only 2.000 units of this eccentric roadster were built. This is one of them, and it has covered only 9.300 km.
We'll admit: the low mileage isn't surprising. This is obviously not the kind of car you put a lot of miles on. So what kind of car is it? It's a perfect car for a ride along the coast on a beautiful summer day. Like a Citroën Mehari or a Fiat 500 Jolly was back in the day. Since a roof, a large part of the windscreen and doors are missing, you sit wonderfully open in the Crossblade. This is the convertible experience to the max. You just shouldn't be a shy person, because you are guaranteed to attract a lot of attention with a Smart Crossblade.
To become a Crossblade, the Smart CityCoupe has been stripped of its roof and windscreen, but it didn't stop there. Almost all body parts are different. For example, the front and rear bumpers are also different from those of a normal Smart. Clearly an effort has been made to make the Crossblade something truly special.
The engine of the Crossblade also received a small boost compared to the CityCoupé. Brabus increased the power of the torqee turbocharged three-cylinder to 71 hp, which is an increase of 10 hp. 71 horsepower is still not a lot, but the Crossblade only weighs 740 kg.
The Crossblade is clearly intended for sun-filled days, but an unexpected rainshower si always a risk. Fortunately, this is no problem for the Crossblade, because the interior is completely waterproof. And when you park the Crossblade, you can cover it with the included rain cover just to be sure.
This example (number 565 out of 2.000) comes from Italy and was brought to the Netherlands in 2020 by the current owner. It has has covered only 9.300 kilometers and the car is still in neat condition.
Equipment
A Smart Crossblade is a minimalistic car, so there's not much to say about the equipment. However, it does have a water-resistant radio. And 'gullwing' doors.
Modifications
None, this car is still completely original.
Remarks
The car is in great condition. There are only some small marks and blemishes, as can be seen on the photos:
Light rim damage all around
Little crack in the tailgate
Small spot on the rear bumper
Scratches on the left exterior mirror
