Singer & Co Ltd., like so many thirties manufacturers, started producing bicycles in the late nineteenth century in Coventry. They progressed to motorcycles and then tricycles before finally building cars in 1905. It was not long before Singer made their presence felt, taking the Brooklands 16 hp record from Sunbeam. By 1928 Singer was Britain‘s third largest car maker after Austin and Morris. The range continued in a very complex manner using developments of the ohc Junior engine first with the Nine, the 14/6 and the sporty 1 1/2 litre.
Built in May 1934 this particular car is 1 of only 12 MkI Le Mans made in 1934, these rare and exciting machines becoming an instant success with aspiring amateur racing drivers. The car has been cherished by the present owner since 1956, who has used the car regularly and kept
