Spotless World Registry of Cobras history
As documented in the World Registry of Cobras, CSX 2274 was originally built in White with black interior, and billed to Shelby American on December 20, 1963, then sailing to Los Angeles aboard the SS Dongedy. The 289 Cobra was delivered new to a Mr. Clint Sandusky, Jr. in June of 1964 via Noble Motor Company of Danville, Illinois. The Registry chronicles a series of owners throughout the decades, and importantly reports no incidents, crashes, or egregious modifications that plague so many sports racers of the day. In the mid-1990s, our CSX 2274 would find its way into a noted Northeast USA collection, where it would reside for the next 25 years until coming into another sharp Northeast USA collection, where we offer you the 289 form today. Once into current ownership, a comprehensive freshening and sorting was commissioned with marque expert, Mark Allin’s Rare Drive of New Hampshire. This all encompassing project’s final cost tallied $115,000.00, and ensures that all systems are fully sorted and on the button. Though painted in the 1990s, the 289 shows beautifully throughout, and its appearance quite pleasing to most anyone, save for the grumpy concours judge. Accompanying 2274 is the soft top and hoop set, side curtains, jack, and grease gun. Importantly, and unlike so many Cobras, CSX 2274 retains its matching numbers original engine, as well as being fitted from new with dual quad carburetors, and is one of the 528 later production MkII examples with rack and pinion steering. 289 Cobra CSX 2274 is a fully dialed in example of Carroll Shelby’s icon, and is an absolute blast to drive.
