Beschreibung

William I’Anson Ltd are delighted to have the rare opportunity to offer such a stunning, original, and un-messed with, early example of Carroll Shelby’s iconic 289 Cobra. Regarded as one of the all-time great sports cars, the muscular, yet refined AC Cobra combined European chassis engineering and American V8 power in what was to be become a legendary alliance, brought about by Le Mans winning racing driver Carroll Shelby, between AC Cars and the Ford Motor Company. The former's Ace provided the simple twin-tube chassis frame - strengthened and supplied with four-wheel disc brakes for the Cobra - into which was persuaded one of Ford's lightweight, small-block V8s.

Auto-crossed in the mid 1960s by its then owner, college student Richard Pryor, in and around Carmel California. With so many Cobra’s having been converted for racing over the years it is a pleasure to come across such a well-preserved original, complete and matching, street version of the legendary 289, still sitting as it would the day it was delivered. As exciting as the racing Cobra’s are to drive, it is the cars still in proper street going specification that really are a treat to drive. They are the perfect combination of torque, power and road holding on the open road. The original body was treated to a sympathetic and beautifully executed bare metal paint restoration by RW Racing in 2019 CSX 2255 and has seen little use since.
