Beschreibung
"Originally a standard 1938 Rover 10 Saloon, this special bodied boat tail example was restored and built to its current specification by its previous owner in the late 1990s. The Rover 10 chassis, suitably boxed and strengthened remains in good condition, the bodywork and wings are rivetted aluminium and the rear is finished in fibreglass. The sporting style continues at the front with a Riley radiator grille, vintage style front headlights and an interior presented with maroon leather seats, a wooden dash and period dials. The front axle consists of Ford transverse springs and friction shock absorbers and the rear is made up of MG Midget leaf springs and modern type shock absorbers. The ‘A’ Series Marina engine is coupled to a Ford, four-speed gearbox and is fed by a single Weber DCOE 40’ carburettor.
In 2008 the Special was subject to much renovation work. Invoices from Sussex Engine Supplies Ltd show an engine rebuild was undertaken which included a re-bore of the cylinders taking the standard ‘A’ Series Marina engine from 1.3 litres to 1.4 litres. A fast road cam, titan roller rocker camshaft and a tooth belt drive timing chain system were also fitted.
Offered in good order throughout, the Special shows a light sign of patina, in keeping with a car of this nature. The history file that accompanies the car includes invoices detailing the engine rebuild, many sundry invoices amounting to over £4,500 for parts and refurbishment alone, and a UK V5 registration document.
This fun 1930's sports Special, reminiscent of many Riley sports cars of its era, would be a great entrant into VSCC and HRDC events. With some light fettling we are sure it would be very competitive and huge amounts of fun!
