Née d’un mariage entre Porsche et Volkswagen, la 914 est un petit roadster sportif avec une histoire singulière. Après le succès de la Coccinelle (grâce notamment à Ferdinand Porsche), les deux marques allemandes s’associent à nouveau pour renouveler leur gamme. Si Volkswagen doit trouver un successeur à sa Karmann Ghia, Porsche n’a quant à lui pas les moyens de développer seul une nouvelle automobile plus accessible que sa nouvelle 911. L’alliance donnera donc lieu à la 914 qui proposera un moteur 4 cylindres et un moteur 6 cylindres. La première est entièrement fabriquée chez le carrossier Karmann. Pour la version 6 cylindres, Porsche commande les caisses et y monte le moteur dans son usine de Zuffenhausen.
La distribution des 914 se fait ensuite de deux manières différentes. En Europe, la marque « Volkswagen-Porsche » est créée pour en assurer la vente. Une 914 européenne possèdera donc une carte grise Volkswagen. Aux Etats-Unis, la vente de la voiture est assurée par Porsche. Les voiture disposeront donc d’une carte grise Porsche.
Cet exemplaire date de 1974. La voiture a été restaurée et se trouve aujourd’hui dans un très bel état général. Sous le capot, le 4 cylindres 1.8L tourne rond. La caisse a été entièrement repeinte. Born from a marriage between Porsche and Volkswagen, the 914 is a small sporty roadster with a singular history. After the success of the Beetle (thanks to Ferdinand Porsche), the two German brands join again to renew their range. If Volkswagen has to find a successor to its Karmann Ghia, Porsche does not have the means to develop alone a new car more accessible than its new 911. The alliance will therefore result in the 914, which will offer a 4-cylinder engine and a 6-cylinder engine. The first one is entirely manufactured at the Karmann body shop. For the 6-cylinder version, Porsche orders the bodies and installs the engine in its factory in Zuffenhausen.
The distribution of the 914 is then done in two different ways. In Europe, the brand "Volkswagen-Porsche" is created to ensure the sale. A European 914 will therefore have a Volkswagen registration card. In the United States, the car is sold by Porsche. The cars will thus have a Porsche registration card.
This car dates from 1974. The car has been restored and is today in a very nice general condition. Under the hood, the 4 cylinder 1.8L engine is running smoothly.
