Beschreibung

The first production turbocharged 911, the 930, was launched in 1975, the heady mix of glacial turbo-lag and the pendulum-like nature of Porsche’s rear-engined layout quickly garnered it the nickname, Widowmaker. But what if, a car referred to as the Widowmaker, just isn’t bonkers enough for you? Well, then you start modifying it, taking lessons from iconic Porsche tuners like RUF.

The car was supplied new to the US in June of 1978, specified originally as a standard 930 Turbo finished in Anthracite metallic. It’s clear from the extensive collection of invoices that it spent some time in Arizona before being imported to Canada in 2012.

Externally, the car remains a standard-looking 930 Turbo still in its original shade of Anthracite Metallic. The paintwork is in good shape, the car was repainted in 2018. Despite the car’s age, it's a modern colour and subtle colour that helps to hide the beast beneath… The only real hint to the steroid-like upgrades externally is a set of 17” RUF alloys, akin to those fitted to the RUF BTR.

Inside, the state of play becomes a bit clearer. Gone are the tombstone seats in favour of a pair of Sparco Torino buckets, trimmed in black and grey. The racey seats are complemented by an Auto Power rear roll-cage that includes a harness bar, whilst the headliner and dash are trimmed in Alcantara.

The roll cage necessitated the swift removal of the rear seats in favour of carpet and RS-style door cards with the interior being finished off by some Rennline aluminium pedals, a MOMO steering wheel and a Wevo shifter.

Under the skin there are a host of RUF-inspired upgrades, starting with the chassis. At the front, there is a strut brace to reinforce the suspension towers and stiffen up the handling. Smart Racing 23mm front and rear anti-roll bars, a hollow 22mm front torsion bar, an ERP bump steer kit, Bilstein dampers, camber adjustment and mono ball rear bushings complete the package.

The turbocharged flat-six has been upgraded with a set of 3.4-litre RUF mahle pistons and sleeves, resulting in a 7.5:1 compression ratio. To maximise the benefit of this newfound capacity, a Kokeln turbocharger and intercooler set-up have been fitted. Alongside extra strong ARP head studs, 911SC cams, TIAL wastegate and WEVO engine mounts.

All this power is sent to the rear wheels through a 915 five-speed manual gearbox, sourced from a 911 SC and fitted with an RSR-style lightweight flywheel, carbon kevlar clutch and a limited slip-differential. It all breathes through a full B&B exhaust system.

This car has been subjected to an extensive program of upgrades, and modifications. But all of the work has been completed in the spirit of the cars that RUF built. Keeping the DNA of the original car alive and well, but enhancing it. Now imported to the UK, and looking for its next caretaker, this RUF-inspired, turbo-charged titan could be yours.

As with all our vehicles, a full digital folder is available on request containing more images, walk-around videos, and scans of the service history. The car can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
