In recent years Porsche has made something of a habit producing a special model or two each year to keep those ravenous fans of the brand from Zuffenhausen happy. It wasn't always like this. In decades past, Porsche might have produced a car that harkened back to their roots once or twice a decade. In fact, the 911 Speedster from 1989 may be forbear to every heritage-inspired model imagined since, right up until the most recent Dakar and S/T. When released, the Speedster became the collectible G-Body 911, and it remains this way today. The Speedster was typically built on the wider body of the M491 911 Turbo Look Cabriolet, redesigned by chief designer Tony Lapine to echo key styling elements of the classic 356 Speedster. It retained the Turbo Look's large fender flares but omitted the "Turbo Tail" rear spoiler. A steeply raked windshield flowed into a low-profile Haartz fabric soft top, ending in a distinctive clamshell tonneau cover defining the Speedster's iconic silhouette.

Produced toward the end of the production run, this 1989 911 Speedster was produced June 1989 in classic Grand Prix White. While its under-hood options sticker shows that it was built with an "LE" Black leather interior it is currently upholstered in tan leather with a tan top, a livery that, by all accounts, it appears to have worn since leaving Stuttgart. It was optioned with a Blaupunkt Reno radio, short shifter, Grand Prix White Fuchs wheels, and fitted with a rear storage compartment instead of rear seats due to the rear clamshell's coverage. Furthermore, it features option code 900 designating it as a Tourist Delivery vehicle. The clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report first shows the car in California as early as 1991 with 1,302 miles. Always a collectible Porsche, it would retain its low-miles status throughout the next 35 years. In 2014 the original owner parted with the car covering just 8,615 miles in their ownership. Today, it is offered with 8,730 miles at the time of cataloging with a history file with service records from both Porsche of South Shore in 2015 and Porsche Plano in 2017 and remains a well-preserved example. As one would expect its factory issued Certificate of Authenticity confirms it continues to retain its numbers matching 3.2-liter air-cooled flat-six and smooth shifting G50 manual transmission.

Acquired by the consignor in 2018, the G-Body Speedster has always been the darling of automotive and Porsche collections and, naturally, it remains this way today. It is offered with books, air pump, a HEPP medical kit, and a clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report as both an eminently collectible and thoroughly useable example.
