The end of the 997-generation produced some of the most epic and collectible 911s produced up to that point, and for many, it remains a golden era of Porsche sports car production. These include the 3.8-liter GT3, GT3 RS, Speedster, as well as highlights such as the Sport Classic, GT3 RS 4.0-and the most powerful of the group-the GT2 RS. Each offers a different take on the 911 philosophy; yet, the GT2 RS, produced in a limited number of just 500 over a single model year, is perhaps more rocketship than car. No wonder Porsche's marketing material featured images of the car on a Space Shuttle launch pad!
Purchased via Porsche Aargau, this Swiss-market (C10) example with limitation number 056 of 500 was selected in optional Carrara White with a Black leather and Alcantara interior. Additional options included wheels painted in black, Sound Package Plus, headrests embossed with the Porsche crest, tinted windshield, and a fire extinguisher. To many, the five options may seem minimal, yet the base technical package of Porsche's most expensive 911 that year is extraordinary. Adaptive sport seats, center lock wheels, carbon fiber bodywork, Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes (PCCB), PASM, PSM, and an array of "race ready" Alcantara and carbon fiber interior components were all standard. Of course, no description of the GT2 RS would be complete without describing the incredible technical package and resulting performance. Powering the GT2 RS is a variable vane twin-turbo flat six producing 620 horsepower fed through a six-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels only. The run to 100 km/h is reached in 3.5 seconds on the way to a 330 km/h top speed. Heady stuff, and no doubt the reason why many consider the 997-generation GT2 RS the peak combination of modern power and performance in a rear-wheel-drive analog sports car.
As this era of GT2 RS has become increasingly collectible, they have begun to trade hands often; however, this 2012 911 GT2 RS is offered from its first and only owner. Perhaps even more impressive is its low mileage-a scant 1,407 kilometers at the time of cataloging. The car is noted by the consignor to have received its initial service at Porsche Aargau, with later servicing in Holland where it holds a current MOT. The sale of the car is accompanied by purchase and service paperwork, its books, tools, and sales brochure. Surely, as one of the finest sports cars of its era, this limited-production GT2 RS must be one of the best of its kind on offer with a known history of single ownership and low mileage.
