Beschreibung
Following the end of 930 Turbo production in 1989, hard-core Porsche fans had to wait until 1991 for the new-generation Turbo, based upon the 964-Series Carrera 2 with an updated version of the 3.3-liter 930 Turbo engine. While an improvement in several areas over the prior 930 Turbo, some die-hard Porschephiles were disappointed in the smoother but nearly equal performance of the Turbo 3.3.
In January 1993, Porsche unleashed the 964 Turbo 3.6, featuring the larger-displacement M64 variant of its venerable air-cooled, flat-six engine, which generated 360 hp at 5,500 rpm in US specification and an extra 52 lbs./ft of torque. Off-boost performance and driveability were greatly enhanced with camshafts, fuel-injection system, and a single KKK turbocharger – all optimized to deliver greater torque at lower engine revolutions than before. This newly found power was capably handled by wider 18" Speedline wheels; lowered and stiffened underpinnings; and for the first time, a set of large red-finished Brembo brake calipers. To say the new Turbo 3.6 was a blistering performer is a serious understatement, with the vehicle reported by Car and Driver to be the best-performing US-specification production car when new.
By the time Turbo 3.6 production ceased at the end of 1993, as few as 1,436 examples were produced, spanning the 1993 and 1994 model years, and the Turbo 3.6 remains highly sought-after by committed driving enthusiasts worldwide.
Porsche completed this 964 Turbo 3.6 on May 13, 1993, and it was originally finished in the desirable color scheme of Midnight Blue Metallic with Classic Grey leather interior enhanced by red carpet, piping, and deviated stitching. A US-specification 1994 model year example, this car was generously optioned with air-conditioning, an electric sunroof, supple leather upholstery, front seat lumbar supports, and a rear seat cover.
Delivered new to Virginia and carefully maintained since new, this three-owner Porsche received a full 30,000-mile major service by Porsche of the Main Line, a Pennsylvania-based marque expert, in February 2015. The work is fully documented, and the $6,369 bill includes a multi-point service, rebuilding the limited-slip differential, a new alternator, four-wheel alignment, and attention to the air-conditioning system. This rare Turbo is offered with certificate of authenticity, books and manuals, keys and radio code card along with the tool kit, spare tire jack, and lug wrench.
This is an outstanding unmodified example of the highly sought-after, limited-production 3.6 Turbo – the ultimate development of the original 911 Turbo concept. For discerning Porsche collectors, this is an opportunity not to be missed.
