Beschreibung
This car was built by Peter Mamerow to compete from the start of the ’93 ADAC GT ‘series at a time when Porsche could not build enough cars. It was built to full RSR spec and was very competitive against the factory cars, at first being hobbled by Porsche supplying only the Turbo wing rather than the full biplane wing that was a design and performance feature of the 964 3.8RSR.
Despite Peter Mamerow crashing the car in qualifying for the final race of the season and stiff competition from the BMW works supported teams and the factory 964 3.8RSR’s, the Mamerow 3.8RSR with Peter driving came 7th in the series.
Following the crash the car was put to one side and it was re-shelled and rebuilt in 2007, incorporating 964RS power steering (invaluable with slicks) and the other performance enhancing components detailed, a car built to win.
With many components no longer available, over the years many campaigned cars have been rebuilt with the best available non-standard parts, hence a completely original delivery miles 964 3.8RSR selling from The White Collection for over $2m.
This Mamerow car incorporates many of the original mechanical components from 1992/3.
Peter Mamerow created this car to compete in the 1993 ADAC GT Cup series against the factory RSR teams. He raced with a good level of success, so much so that Porsche refused to sell him the latest RSR rear spoiler. You can see this in the Wagenpass, and in the photos from the ADAC Championship.
A number of race result sheets are present in the file.
The car had been in storage at Mamerow Engineering (ME). Peter and his son (now a works driver for Audi) decided to rebuild the car ready to race it together. This was a 'budget no object' exercise, as ME had a substantial sponsor behind them, every aspect of the car was rebuilt or bought new from Porsche. The list is extensive but to shortlist a few points; new RSR heads from Porsche, new BBS wheels, Fully rebuilt bespoke gearbox, new FIA bag tank (renewed again in 2021), new AP air jack system, new drive shafts, new LSD.
A detailed photographic record accompanies the rebuild.
Car-iconics Ltd sold the car in 2019 to a very experienced gentlemen racing driver who campaigned the car in two races, coming outright 1st in both races at Mallory Park and Donnington
In 2021 the car was sold onto to its present owner, again an experienced gentlemen racer with substantial knowledge of the Porsche marque. The original intention was to race the car, so the fuel bladder was replaced, engine stripped, checked and refreshed.
The engine was mapped by Chipwizards so that the car could be used both on and off track. Power (on a cooler day )is an impressive 400BHP!
A change of circumstance has resulted in the car being available for its next custodian.
Note: A comprehensive technical and history file accompanies this very special Mamerow RSR.
