Beschreibung
Porsche’s basic 356 design was constantly refined and updated, culminating in the fantastic 356 C which debuted in July 1963. Select mechanical advancements included standard four-wheel disc brakes and new 15" wheels as well as deeper reclining bucket seats that were fitted courtesy of Reutter, which owned a subsidiary that would become Recaro.
According to its original window sticker on file, this Cabriolet was initially delivered to Dave Rasmussen Volkswagen in San Mateo, California, via distributor Porsche Car Pacific. This highly engaging 1964 Porsche 356 C Cabriolet was purchased new on May 7, 1964, by Rockwell “Dick” Banwell of San Francisco, and its build sheet documents that it retains its factory-installed, 75 hp Type 616/15 engine (no. 711689). Within its 29-year tenure with Mr. Banwell, it received a repaint with a color change from its original Champagne Yellow to the present Black; it has been with its second California-based owner since 1993. Significant documentation includes its initial registration issued in 1964 with California DMV Code 110, denoting a new vehicle, and most every subsequent registration under its first owner, plus the window sticker, service logbook, Blaupunkt radio warranty card, and service records. Charmingly, its black California license plate sports registration stickers over 1/2" thick. Showing less than 68,400 miles, this well-kept and highly prized 356 C has benefited from its temperate climate since new and is sure to thrill its next caretaker.
