Bring A Trailer NO RESERVE auction preview: Restored as an outlaw, immaculate.1962 Porsche 356B Sunroof CoupeChassis No. – 120129Engine No. – P*805171*Gearbox No. - 73515Exterior Color – Dark Silver MetallicInterior Color – RedEngine – Air cooled 4-cylinderTransmission – 4-speed manualCurrent Miles – 12,327 (TMU)General OverviewThe legendary Porsche 356 remains today one of the most sought-after vintage sports cars. With its unique profile, comfortable driving manners, and race-inspired lineage, the first Porsche to proudly bear the family name of Ferdinand Porsche set the standard of engineering excellence upheld decade after decade in each new offering. Introduced in 1948, the 356 benefited from continual refinements until 1965, when production yielded to the 911. During this time, engine horsepower increased from a noble 40hp to just under 100hp with the desirable Super engine for added performance. And while many of the technical and engineering advances developed in the 356 would continue into production for the 911, the purity and simplicity of the 356 still remains an enduring and charming reminder of what a sports car should be. This nicely enhanced 356B has been prepared in the “Outlaw” tradition offering excellent finishes throughout and sensitive enhancements to the 356 driving experience. The dark silver metallic paint is smooth and glossy with excellent coverage on all exterior surfaces. The doors, hood, and engine lid shut properly with very good parting lines. The quality of the chrome, trim, and emblems are excellent throughout having been restored or replaced with correct reproduction parts including unique Outlaw decklid script and a “356 Arizona Outlaws” emblem. The bumpers have been removed, and chrome uprights have been mounted through the former mounting openings along with fog lamps on companion extension brackets away from the body. The glass and lenses are of high quality as are the underlying gaskets and weatherstripping. A set of wider ventilated chrome wheels with chrome wheel covers are installed, wearing a set of Dunlop Signature 185/65 R15 radial tires. The interior is handsomely prepared using correct, high-quality materials throughout the cabin. The red leather seats have been properly restored, with correct piping, pleats, and just the right amount of seat foam, ideal for thigh support when cornering. The interior has a rewarding blend of authentic restoration and thoughtful upgrades including a satin red finished roll bar, a pair of vintage competition style seatbelts, and a Porsche branded radio blanking plate. The correct headliner, properly restored rear seats, square weave carpeting, black rubber floor mat, and correctly pocketed door panels present beautifully. The dashboard is finished in matching dark gray metallic paint with an accenting red leather dash top. The instruments have excellent overall cosmetics with contrasting dial faces, correct green indication, and clear glass. Outfitted with a VDO clock, the switches, knobs, and handles all retain a very unified feeling of quality and finish. An excellent touch to the sporting interior is the wood-rim and aluminum spoke steering wheel. An added plus to the driving experience, this 356 features a sunroof which has a correctly fitting headliner, smoothly operates fore and aft, and latches in the closed position using the rotating latching handle. Under the hood, the engine compartment and uprated super 90 engine present confidently with attention to detail and correct Porsche specifications, though updated with more horsepower for spirited driving. A set of aftermarket air cleaners, sit atop twin dual throat Weber carburetors and a 123 ignition which improve overall performance. The engine was reportedly rebuilt approximately 20 years ago and several mechanical items tended to under prior ownership as well as recent service work performed in preparation for sale. The underside reveals a generally sound floor with solid suspension attachment points and finishes consistent with properly serviced cars. The gearbox casing is stamped 73515.Items Included with the CarA Porsche 356B driver’s manual, tire jack, spare wheel, and various spare parts are included with this 356.
