The Porsche 356 A made its appearance at the end of 1955. With many minor but significant changes, the 356 A sported a body nicknamed “T1”. The range included coupe, cabriolet and speedster versions. For the coupé and cabriolet versions, exterior modifications included a curved windshield that replaced the “curved” windshield of the Pre-A model. Another major change was the dashboard, which now featured a padded top and a more modern look. The engine range included a 1,300 cm³ engine, but most models were equipped with the new 1,600 cm³ 60 hp engine (nicknamed “Dame” for its smoothness), also available in a “Super” version with 75 hp. Early 1957 saw the launch of a new version of the 356 A, known as the “T2”.

In exceptional restored condition, our 356 is a rare A version, available as a T1 coupé with its Reutter-bodied 1600 cm³ engine. With its magnificent Polyantha red paintwork and beige interior, it was produced in 1957. Sold new in New York in September 1957 and then returned to Europe, in Italy, the current owner acquired it in 2006, becoming the third owner. Its original 4-cylinder engine is mated to a 644 4-speed manual gearbox.
Since it arrived in France in 2006, it has benefited from a full restoration (totaling €150,000) finished in 2019 and has been monitored at AS Classic Engineering. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to find a 356A T1 Coupé on the market, and our example, in this elegant color combination, is a rare and valuable opportunity.
