CARDEX AND EXTENSIVE DOCUMENTATIONS
The Porsche Speedster was born at the request of the American importer Max Hoffman from New York, who needed to have a cheaper and more spartan version of the 356.
Success was not long in coming, the Speedster was also widely used in various competitions.
The very first series was based on the chassis of the 356 cabriolet: in 1954 only 200 cars were built and defined as pre series, today very rare and particularly desired by collectors.
It was distinguished by the classic low windshield, lack of side windows, unpadded fabric hood and sports seats.
Only 3 colors were available: Speedster Blau, Red and White.
Our car was completed in December 1954 finished in white with a red interior.
This is car no. 159 and therefore already with a modified 1500 engine (3-piece crankcase).
The previous owner, a well-known American collector, purchased it in 1992 and, in the early 2000s, had it restored in Michigan by the well-known specialist Skirmant.
It is thought that in that period the engine was replaced because it was too deteriorated and an engine of the same type and series from 1955 was fitted, not far from the original numbering.
The bodywork is intact and still retains all its original panels, with the exception of one door, which comes from another Speedster.
The lines are very nice, in Porsche standards.
Equipped with two special double-barrel carburettors, an option of a certain economic value,
the car has recently undergone an overhaul and replacement of the clutch.
Complete with its tool kit and the very rare 16” wheels supplied with the optional turbine wheel.
