- Technologically advanced French light car
- Resident in Italy since 1994
- Restored in the 2000s
- Mille Miglia Storica participant in 2006 and 2010
Panhard abandoned its large-capacity range in the post-WW2 era to concentrate on small utility cars of considerable mechanical ingenuity, based initially on a design by front-wheel drive pioneer, Jean-Albert Grégoire. Powered by air-cooled, horizontally opposed, twin-cylinder engines, these Dyna Panhards featured front-wheel drive (of course), independent front suspension, torsion bar springing, aluminium bodywork and a typically Gallic dashboard gearchange. The cars were fast for their size, economical and handled well.
'1520WL42' was the previous French registration (Prefecture de la Loire) of this delightful little Panhard, which arrived in Italy in 1994. In 2002 the car was registered in Italy and restored in order to participate to the Mille Miglia, which it did on two occasions, in 2006 and 2010. The mechanical side of the restoration was entrusted to Officini Gamberini of Bologna, and the car comes with a dynamometer printout confirming the engine's maximum power output of 53bhp at 5,000rpm (dated 2006). In 2019 the Panhard was sold to a well-known Bologna based collector. Probably the most affordable and fun way of competing in the Mille Miglia Storica, the Panhard presents in overall good condition and is ready to be used. The car is homologated and comes with Italian registration documents, FIVA passport as well as ASI Targa Oro certificate.
