Vehicle No. 1207-206

Engine No. 903379

By the mid-1930s, Packard's 12-cylinder models were the pinnacle of American engineering and luxury, combining powerful performance with streamlined, elegant designs that captured the era's spirit. Particularly desirable were those fitted with rare or custom bodies, especially those crafted by the renowned LeBaron coachworks. Throughout the 1930s, LeBaron's fashionable designs for Packard's Super Eight and Twelve chassis set the standard for bespoke automotive sophistication.

This elegant 1935 LeBaron Cabriolet, as confirmed by its original Packard data plate, was originally delivered to New York City on 29 April 1935. It is believed that the Silverman family, the influential publishers behind Variety magazine, first owned the car, based on documentation on file. Given LeBaron's esteemed reputation, it's no surprise that a family of such prominence would choose this formal Packard for transportation through Manhattan's streets through the early 1950s.

The Packard then went to the Pacific Northwest, where it was acquired by noted dealer Tom Crook. It later went to John Spencer Bradley, a Southern California enthusiast known for his passion for original cars with intriguing histories. Throughout Bradley's ownership, the LeBaron was maintained and preserved. The Packard remained a treasured part of his collection, and upon his passing in 2006, it became a highlight of a major collection of American and European classics until it was sold once again in 2011, when it was purchased by the current owner.

Today, this Packard Twelve remains a well-presenting example, showing signs of light restoration work from decades past yet still retaining original features. The commanding black coachwork is contrasted with subtle red pinstriping, while the LeBaron's dual metal-covered side-mounted spares, Trippe driving lights, wide white wall tires, and the Packard trunk all add to the appearance and appeal. The luxurious rear interior compartment remains with sumptuous appointments from the silk shades and wool upholstery. For discerning collectors, this 1935 Packard Twelve 1207 LeBaron All-Weather Cabriolet offers a timeless presence and rich history, making it an enviable prize for the serious Packard aficionado and collectors of pre-war cars.
