Beschreibung

Exemplifying Packard’s celebrated Eleventh Series for 1934, this Twelve 1107 Coupe Roadster is a study in Jazz Age glamour with its generous 142" wheelbase chassis and elegant, yet decidedly sporting, open coachwork. According to the identification plate affixed to its firewall, this Coupe Roadster was delivered new to the Philadelphia-based distributor Packard Inc. on January 24, 1934.

According to the book The Magnificent Packard Twelve of Nineteen Thirty Four by Edward J. Blend, this Packard Twelve was purchased new by Pennsylvania resident Edward Meckel, who retained it for nearly 40 years before selling it circa 1973 to longtime AACA and Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Club members Ken and Nettie van Ausdal of Skippack, Pennsylvania. In 1984, the vehicle passed from the Van Ausdals through noted collector Mark Smith to Linda and David Nixon of Chatham, Massachusetts, on December 6, 1984 – with just 32,552 miles. According to notes compiled by past owner David E. Kane, Mr. Nixon stated that the car “was in wonderful original condition and all he did was drive it occasionally until he sold it in 1987 to Jim King of Massachusetts.”

Mr. Kane acquired the Packard from Mr. King circa 1994, with approximately 35,000 miles. Mr. Kane commissioned a concours-level restoration by Stone Barn Automobile Restoration of Vienna, New Jersey, and its post-restoration debut was momentous. It received First in Class honors at the 1996 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®, scored a perfect 100 points, and received First Place at the 1998 CCCA East Grand Classic event in Towson, Maryland, which was followed by another First Place award in 2000 – this time in the Premier Division – at the CCCA Summer Grand Classic. Additionally, in 2003, the Packard was awarded the AACA National Senior First Prize.

In November 2006, the Packard Twelve was acquired by its next caretaker, Tenny Natkin, who saw it earn another perfect 100-point score at the 2007 CCCA Annual Meeting in Universal City, California. Under the next owner, the Packard’s engine and gearbox were rebuilt in 2008 by Rick Engquist of McPherson, Kansas, which was followed by a cosmetic refresh, and receipts on file total nearly $70,000. Further successes included 249.75-point score out of a possible 250 points in February 2013 at the Packards International Membership Meet in Orange, California, where it was awarded Best Prewar, Open. The current owner acquired this multiple award-winning Packard Twelve in August 2013, continuing in the footsteps of his predecessors with its care and maintenance. Offered in exemplary condition throughout and well documented, this wonderful Eleventh-Series Packard Twelve 1107 Coupe Roadster stands ready for its next owner to show and, best of all, enjoy on any classic touring event one should ever have the privilege to enter.
