Beschreibung
Moto Guzzi has been an innovative, leading Italian manufacturer of motorcycles since 1921, and the company found early success with its overhead cam racing bikes. The marque became especially known for its distinctive horizontally mounted single-cylinder designs, which, unlike vertically mounted singles, allowed the motorcycle’s frame to be much lower, creating better handling and aerodynamics. Moto Guzzi also became famous for its use of large, externally mounted flywheels, which kept the engine’s crankcase compact and rigid, and enthusiasts playfully deemed this feature the “bologna slicer.” The Sport series was the singular Moto Guzzi model built between 1923 and 1928, and it was well regarded for its good performance, beautiful lines, and excellent build quality.
This gorgeous and very rare 1925 Sport 13 was held in an important Italian collection, according to documents on file, and purchased by noted Italian car and motorcycle collector Leo Schigiel of Miami in 2017. Finished in a beautiful green with yellow pinstriping, this is an outstanding, restored example that is accompanied by Automobile Club d’Italia records. Fitted with an acetylene headlamp and large front-mounted horn, this Sport 13 has great visual appeal, with its beautiful mechanicals proudly on display. Early examples such as this are very difficult to find, especially in the US, making the sale of this bike a rare opportunity to acquire an important piece of Italian motorcycling history.
*Please note that this vehicle has been in long-term static storage and may require mechanical attention prior to road use.
