Background
The Mk1 Mini (1959–1967) was the first version of British Motor Corporation's Mini model. It is characterised by its sliding windows, external door hinges and 'moustache' grille. In the United Kingdom the Mk1 was produced between 1959 and 1967 at the Longbridge Plant near BMC's headquarters, with production in Australia continuing until 1970. The Mini Mk1 was sold under both Austin and Morris marquee names.
The Car
It was originally supplied in 1967 by Stuart and Arden of Acton, it was then acquired by our vendor in 2004 in a sorry sate and in need of some work which was carried out by a mini specialist, Janspeed. The car was completely re-shelled in the early 2000s, but the car has been rebuilt using as many 'OEM' parts as possible, giving the car a period and unmodified look. With it still having its original window piano-hinge, chrome-plated gear lever and of course, the 130mph speedometer.
Mechanically wise, it’s still running the 1,275cc engine with the correct twin SU carbs, contributing to the car's underrated power delivery and sharp throttle response and still being mated to the correct 4-speed gearbox. The car still sits on the period correct 10" ventilated steel wheels.
The interior has recently been revamped, with the seats being trimmed in new Tartan Red/Gold Brocade Grey from Newton Commercial and like the originals, they still recline. The carpet and headlining are also in very good condition. The vendor has given the car a couple modern touches, a smaller diameter steering wheel and a 'fly-off' handbrake.
The car also come with its original jack and handbooks and is supplied with a BMIHT Heritage Certificate to show the car's originality and provenance.
